In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May, often kicks off with morning parades that include colourful folkloric dances, vibrant music and historical reenactments of the Mexican armies victory over the French Empire in 1862. Traditional attire is worn and Mexican flags are waived with pride. Families and friends gather to prepare and share traditional meals, each dish steeped in history and flavour.

Central to these joyful celebrations are the rich, diverse flavours of Mexican cuisine that unite people and feasts of colour and taste.

We invite you to savour the flavours of Mexican cuisine. Join us for a Foodie Fiesta Mexicana to learn about new spices and flavours. Together we will prepare several dishes using curing, pickling, grilling and roasting techniques.

There will be Mexican chilies of a varying spiciness used in some of the recipe so be prepared for some heat – Caliente! There will also be plenty of fresh coriander/cilantro used in these dishes, so please no coriander allergies as we cannot adjust recipes to omit this key ingredient and flavour of Mexican cuisine.

The menu includes: Halibut Ceviche, Pico de Gallo, Chipotle Salsa, Guacamole and Totopos (Corn Tortilla Chips). Marinated and Grilled Skirt Steak Tacos with various condiments. Chicken Enchiladas Verde, Oaxacan Black Beans – and of course tasty Margaritas and Mockaritas. Grilled Pineapple with Tajin and Crema for dessert.

The activity will be held in NW8 at a member’s home, the exact location will be communicated to registered participants near to the date. Places are limited, so please book your ticket early to avoid disappointment.
