Our guest speaker this month is Lisa Aziz, the award winning TV and radio presenter and news anchor. After starting out as a reporter in local radio and television in the 1980's, Lisa became the main newscaster and a political programme host for TV-AM, the first national franchise for breakfast television in the UK in 1988 following which she presented a series of programmes on politics, current affairs, and business for the BBC and the Financial Times. In 1993 Lisa became a main news anchor and senior reporter at Sky News during which she anchored the reporting of the first Iraq war, the death of Princess Diana, the death of the Queen Mother, the Hajj Pilgrimage and the terrorist bombings in London, New York and Madrid. Since 2013, Lisa has been a news presenter on Global radio in London specialising in political and business issues including conducting investigative reporting and interviews with key figures in these fields and reporting on major national events, most recently as host of the LBC News Breakfast Show where she was the only woman presenter on national radio hosting such a show solo. Lisa has won numerous broadcasting awards including the Daily Mail's Media Personality of the Year Award at the GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards, the Independent Radio News Gold Award in 2021 for an outstanding contribution to broadcasting and the Asian Media Award in 2022 for an outstanding contribution to the media. Lisa has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to charity and fundraising over a 30 year period including a range of ambassadorial roles for charities in the fields of childcare, the environment, entertainment, and the prison service. As the first British Asian female newsreader on mainstream television, Lisa will reveal to us how she successfully pioneered the traditionally male dominated culture in TV and radio and the medium's powerful proprietorial interests to become a much admired role model for women of all faiths and all ages.
